University Libraries appoints Chris Vidas as assistant dean for content and access

ÃÛèÖÊÓƵ Libraries is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Vidas as the new assistant dean for content and access, effective Feb. 16, 2026.

Vidas will lead the Acquisitions, Content, and Metadata departments to collaboratively identify and implement innovative solutions that support the research and creative activity of students and faculty across the institution. He will work closely with the Libraries’ leadership team to develop creative and strategic approaches to acquiring and processing content and making it discoverable to ÃÛèÖÊÓƵ constituents.

In addition, Vidas will oversee the collections budget to retain valuable subscriptions and to pursue novel and beneficial agreements that support open access and publishing interests for faculty authors.

Vidas has an extensive career in academic libraries, most recently serving as the head of Collections and Acquisitions at Clemson University. He has broad experience in public and technical services, starting his career at Salisbury University in Maryland as a reference and instruction librarian, while also managing electronic resources. He proceeded to USC Upstate as the coordinator of electronic resources and collections assessment librarian. Vidas maintains an interest in understanding how library public and technical services intersect and how personnel in those areas collaborate. His research interests include library management, electronic resources, acquisitions, and implementing ideas that build community within and external to the library.

Vidas holds a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Houghton College.
