How long is the virtual recognition ceremony?
Usually, the ceremony lasts around one hour.
Do I have to register to attend?
Yes, graduating students do need to register in order to attend. Registration ensures that your name and degree will be read live during the ceremony.
How will I access the ceremony on the day of the event?
You will get an email with the event’s video link as soon as you register. You will also get the link to attend a few hours before the event. The ceremony will be held in Microsoft Teams.
I’m graduating in the summer. How can I participate?
While we do not offer the event during the summer, you are welcome to attend the virtual ceremony in the fall!
Can I bring as many guests as I want?
Yes! Guests are welcome to attend. There is no limit to how many people you can invite
Will there be a recording of the event?
If you registered for the ceremony, you will receive a recording within a few days after the event. You’re free to share the recording with whomever you like!

What is the difference between the commencement/recognition ceremonies and degree conferral?
The recognition ceremonies (both online and in-person) and degree conferrals are two separate processes. The ceremony is a way for you to celebrate your achievements. However, you do not receive your degree or diploma during the ceremony (except for the Doctor of Athletic Training program). Degree conferral occurs during the first several weeks after the semester ends and verifies that you have met the degree requirements once all final grades are submitted. After your degree is conferred, the graduation division of the Registrar's office will include the degree notation on your official transcript and mail your diploma/certificate. When will I receive my diploma and get confirmation of my degree conferral?
The Registrar’s Graduation webpage provides information about when diplomas will be mailed out, dates for degree conferral, and more! Keep in mind that commencement is not the same date as degree conferral.
How do I obtain degree verification to provide to my employer or funding source?
Once degrees are awarded (conferred), students may print a free degree verification letter. Please visit the Enrollment/Degree Verification webpage for more information. If you need degree verification before the official letters are available through the Registrar’s Office (about one month after degree conferral), please contact your program’s leadership requesting a letter to verify the degree.
