Academic Probation & Appeals
Academic Probation and Academic Success Workshop
The academic record of each enrolled undergraduate student will be reviewed at the end of every semester to verify accumulative GPA. At the time of the review, if your accumulative GPA is below a 2.0, you will be placed on academic probation. To be removed from probation, your accumulative GPA must reach at least a 2.0.
If you are placed on academic probation, you will receive an email from the OHIO Online advising team with information about the required OHIO Online Academic Success Workshop in Canvas, and you will work closely with them on an academic success plan based on your needs and educational goals. You can learn more about academic probation and the Academic Success Workshop on the Academic Probation web page.
GPA Calculator
The GPA calculator generates projected GPA values based on expected grades in each course.
Grade Appeals
Grade appeals are only done after the course is completed. You may initiate the process by emailing a request for a formal grade appeal from the professor teaching the course. If the appeal cannot be settled between you and the professor, the Chair of the Department is the next person to contact regarding the formal appeal. Appeals can be elevated to the college for dean-level review. You may work through the appeals process alone or ask the Office of the Ombudsperson for assistance.
The burden of proof for a grade appeal is on the student. If you are in the middle of the semester and believe you may be appealing your grade, be sure to keep all documentation - screenshots of Canvas, the syllabus, and all tests and papers.
If you have additional questions about the process after reviewing Tips for Completing a Grade Appeal, please feel free to contact the Ombuds at 740.593.2627 or ombuds@ohio.edu.
