Computer Programmer PACE Position

Details
Under the guidance of experienced mentors, the student will gain proficiency in software development and learn how to apply coding skills in a real-world, industry setting. This role offers insight into the full software development lifecycle, from concept to product delivery. Beyond technical training, the position provides valuable experience in professional communication and teamwork, including direct collaboration with business professionals. The student will also develop an understanding of business incubation principles and their role in supporting startup success, preparing them for future careers in both startup and corporate environments.

The Computer Programmer will:

  • Collaborate with team members throughout the platform development process
  • Assist in writing code for software development
  • Support integration and implementation of the software platform
  • Make code revisions based on user feedback

Working hours are flexible and can be adjusted to meet the student's schedule, but will primarily take place on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., with the majority of work conducted onsite.

Qualifications

  • Junior standing or above (at least third year of study)
  • Ability to understand and write code for software development
  • Proficiency in at least two programming languages
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and development protocols
  • Clear and professional communication skills
  • Ability to manage email, calls, and text communications professionally
  • A collaborative spirit and positive attitude

Mentoring
Stacy Strauss, Director of the Innovation Center will provide mentoring to the selected student. Ms. Strauss has over ten years of experience working within and in support of startup companies. She manages the staff, advises, and makes connections for clients, and oversees facility management, fundraising efforts, budget analysis, resource solicitations, and other operations. During her tenure, the Innovation Center was named the Rural-Based Entrepreneurial Center of the Year (2022), International Incubator of the Year (2019), and Rural Incubator of the Year twice (2016 and 2019), by InBIA, the industry's leading international professional association. The Innovation Center was also ranked by UBI, a global benchmarking institute, as the 3rd best university-based incubator in North America (2016). She has secured over $5 million in grant funding to support the work of the Innovation Center.
