Nonprofit Leadership and Management Certificate

The Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Management provides students with practical and effective skills as they begin or advance their careers in the nonprofit sector.

The curriculum also focuses on preparing nonprofit managers to understand the size and scope of the field, ethical considerations of managing in the nonprofit sector, and the regulatory environment that nonprofits operate within. Individual courses focus on developing students' skills in fundraising, resource development, program management, marketing and communication, media strategies, and government/nonprofit collaboration.

 

Careers with a Nonprofit Leadership and Management Certificate

Students who complete the Nonprofit Leadership and Management Certificate will be equipped to meet the growing demand for skilled employees in the nonprofit sector and to lead and develop within their organizations.

Students completing this certificate will be able to:

  • Explain the managerial and ethical considerations that are unique to working in the nonprofit sector.
  • Develop and implement a communications plan that strategically promotes mission-related goals and objectives.
  • Assess current trends in the nonprofit sector and how they impact nonprofit management.
  • Apply fundraising strategies that are effective in meeting organizational needs and objectives

  • Admission to the Certificate

    Only currently enrolled graduate students are eligible to take this on-campus certificate, which is designed for students in the Master of Public Administration program. To add a certificate, look for the link for Current Graduate Students to add a certificate on the Graduate College admissions page.

    This certificate is available on campus (CTNLMG) or through OHIO Online (CTNMOG).

  • Courses & Curriculum

    The certificate requires completion of 9 hours. Required courses are:

    • MPA 5890 - Non-profit Leadership and Governance
    • MPA 5660 - Strategic Communication and Outreach for Non-Profit Management
    • MPA 5680 - Nonprofit Financial Management and Resource Development
