Paul Valentine

Assistant Professor of Instruction

Paul Valentine received his Masters in Public Administration from the University of Arkansas in 2013 and completed his Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma in 2018 after which he stayed as an instructor on the University of Oklahoma's Tulsa campus for four years. During his time at Oklahoma Dr. Valentine also worked for the provost's office as a data analyst for the student retention team, during which time the university achieved record highs in undergraduate student retention. He has been an assistant professor of instruction at the Voinovich School since 2022, where he teaches across all three modalities of the MPA program and the Nonprofit Leadership and Management Certificate.

Dr. Valentine’s research focuses on collaboration between public managers, administrators, and personnel, specifically during organizational and policy change, and how this may impact the performance of public institutions. Most recently, his work explores this topic in relation to the growing trend of consolidations between higher education institutions with a focus on the impacts these consolidations have on students, faculty, and the institutions. Dr. Valentine especially enjoys developing classroom discussions that get students to engage creatively with the course topic and has a passion for teaching all students to never use pie charts.

Personally, Dr. Valentine is the father of four daughters who enjoy playing all sorts of games with him that inevitably involve somebody chasing someone else around the house. He also maintains a collection of board games that is rapidly outgrowing the available space and hosts a gameshow style podcast called What's On Draft with two of his high school friends.
