Development and Behavioral Economics
Our faculty conduct research on a broad range of topics related to decision-making and well-being. Collaborative research between faculty and undergraduate students frequently results in joint publications. Development economists conduct research on poverty, inequality, household decisions, and economic growth.
Behavioral economics examines how psychological, emotional, and social factors influence economic decision-making. Faculty are also engaged in designing and testing theories and behavior, often using randomized field experiments.
Additionally, some faculty have authored books on social policy topics such as crime and punishment and addiction. These subjects appeal not only to economics majors but also to students in sociology, criminology, political science, health administration, and psychology.
Energy & Environmental Economics
Energy and environmental economics is a faculty research area that is vigorously pursued and regularly brought into the classroom. Research has focused on resource economics and its overlap with environmental issues. Our faculty have worked with coauthors at ÃÛèÖÊÓƵ, including sponsored research for the George V. Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service.
Other research is specialized in environmental economics with a focus on environment and development, including tropical deforestation and valuation of energy independent housing (NSF). Faculty are affiliated core faculty for Environmental Studies, CE3 (Consortium for Economics, Energy and the Environment), the Latin American Studies and the International Development Studies programs.
Health & Public Economics
Health and public economics faculty examine the economic dimensions of healthcare systems, public health interventions, and government policy. Research focuses on health-care access, health disparities, evaluating government programs, and the distributional effects of public policies.
