Mourning Visualization and Simulation Lab

The Mourning Visualization and Simulation Lab focuses on the creation of high-resolution, high-performance data visualizations of modeled and simulated scientific phenomenon. The VizSim lab is located in Russ College of Engineering and Technology School of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science.

We specialize in the creation of high performance, interactive, 3D+time Data Visualizations for use in science, industry and education. More specifically, we create 3D+time data visualizations to enhance understanding of geospatial data, primarily in the domain of aviation safety. General domains include navigational aid antenna pattern visualization and weather.

Featured Research Areas

Here are a few of the VizSimLab ongoing research areas.

  •

    Multipath Modelling

World leaders in the modelling of multipath for Navigational Aids.

  •

    Flight Simulation

Researching flight simulation-based ML models for live flight.

  •

    Low Altitude Weather

Providers of Low Altitude Weather Data, primarily for use in Advanced Air Mobility.

Our Team

The VizSim lab is led by Principal Investigator, Assistant Professor Chad Mourning.

Current researchers include three Ph.D. students, eight master's students, and several undergraduate researchers. Thus far the lab has overseen $1 million in sponsored research and graduated three master's students.
